The speed at which the deal has been negotiated is thanks in part to a permanent transfer being agreed as part of the initial loan, although reports had suggested the fee would be as high as £50m. Plettenberg suggests the newly-appointed Thomas Frank is a fan of the player. It will be the north London club's first signing under his reign.

Tel spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Tottenham, logging 20 games and scoring three goals for the Lillywhites. The Frenchman is expected to sign a long term deal at the club.

The highly-rated Frenchman will enjoy the opportunity of regular first-team football, as it appeared his career was stagnating in Bavaria. He still has work to do, to become first-choice, however. Spurs are chasing the services of Brian Mbeumo from Frank's former club Brentford, who will provide stiff competition alongside incumbent attacking stars like Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-Min Son and Dominic Solanke.
